According to the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, the Tho Xuan Airport opened for civil flights in 2013 with a flight route operated by Vietnam Airlines to HCM City, which has helped boost socioeconomic development of the province.
During its busiest period, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Bamboo Airways, and Pacific Airline operated nine routes from Tho Xuan to HCM City, Nha Trang, Can Tho, Danang, Buon Ma Thuot, Phu Quoc, Binh Dinh, Con Dao, and Da Lat.
However, only Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air are currently running 8-10 flights daily on the Thanh Hoa - HCM City route, while Bamboo Airways operates three flights weekly and Pacific Airlines only during the Tet holiday.
Meanwhile, travel demand between the southern and central highlands regions to Thanh Hoa is rising.
To attract visitors and investors to Thanh Hoa, the committee has proposed that domestic airlines resume the Thanh Hoa - Can Tho, Thanh Hoa - Nha Trang, Thanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot, Thanh Hoa - Da Lat, Thanh Hoa - Phu Quoc routes and increase the frequencies on the Thanh Hoa - HCM City route.
