VietNamNet Bridge – Based on the idea of Thanh Hoa province’s police agency, the Weapon Manufacturing Institute has produced a net releasing device, which has been used by Thanh Hoa police since April 26.

Thanh Hoa police manufacture net gun to control motorcycle racers

The primitive net releasing tool used by Thanh Hoa police a few years ago.

Thanh Hoa City Police said that this device will be used to catch motorbike drivers who run at high speed, run in careless ways that can make danger to others on the road.

According to tests, when the net stuck to spokes, the offender cannot speed up and the motorcycle will slowly stop. This prevents the accident from occurring and facilitates the police to arrest the offenders easily.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Xuan Khoa, the head of the net releasing device research group, said that the device can launch the net to a maximum distance of about 15 meters before the net spreads to stick to spokes.

"The device does not emit loud sounds so the violators won’t detect it. Each tube can be used for about 30 times," said Khoa.

 

The net releasing device is about 60cm long.

 

The police agency of Thanh Hoa province and the manufacturers are quite optimistic about the effectiveness as well as the aesthetic appeal of this device.

Colonel Le Van Nghiem - Thanh Hoa City Police Chief - said: "This is a safe, economic and an effective method to control naughty drivers."

He said previously, the police used various measures to catch illegal racers and naughty drivers including the use of trucks to block the roads, building iron fences, shooting paint but these measures were not effective.

Five net releasing "guns" have been handed over to the police of Thanh Hoa.
