Three days after Typhoon No. 10 (Bualoi) made landfall, Le Thi Tuyen, 50, a resident of Phuong Mao Hamlet in Hoang Giang Commune, Thanh Hoa Province, remains in shock.

According to Tuyen, within seconds, violent winds destroyed much of the family's property. Most shocking was the family’s seven-seater SUV being swept more than 300 meters into a nearby rice field, left twisted and mangled beyond recognition.

Tuyen said her family had bought the Toyota Veloz just over a year ago on an installment plan. The car was registered under her 29-year-old son Nguyen Viet Tien, who used it for passenger transport.

The night before the storm, they had moved the vehicle to an empty lot near a neighbor’s house, hoping to avoid damage from a tree in front of their own.

“Around 4 a.m. on September 29, we were all sleeping when we heard this horrifying howling of wind. The glass windows shattered, and furniture inside the house was tossed around. We were terrified and didn’t dare step outside.

When the storm began to calm in the morning, I ran out to check. The house was devastated - many parts had collapsed. And our car… it was just gone,” Tuyen recounted with emotion.

Panic-stricken, she called her husband to search for the vehicle. Neighbors soon reported that the SUV had been found in a rice field, over 300 meters from its original parking spot.

When the couple arrived, they were stunned to find their vehicle flattened and twisted, barely recognizable.

“I never imagined a car weighing over a ton could be picked up and tossed around like a toy. Seeing it flipped over in the rice field left me trembling,” she said.

Not far from the spot where Tuyen’s car landed was another vehicle - a Toyota Innova belonging to Dang Minh Dung. His car had been parked right in front of his house but was also hurled more than 100 meters by the storm.

“The wind was unbelievable. Inside, we heard terrifying gusts mixed with the crashing of falling walls, tiles, and metal roofs. I looked out the window and couldn’t see my car. At first, I thought it had just shifted slightly, but I was wrong - it had flown far,” Dung said.

According to Dung, his vehicle sustained heavy damage to its exterior, and the engine was completely dislodged from the front frame. “I work in business and rely heavily on the car. Now that it’s wrecked like this, I honestly don’t know how I’ll continue working,” he said.

Another family, that of Nguyen Huy Phuong, 55, also suffered severe loss when a broken utility pole fell and crushed their car parked in the front yard.

Local authorities in Hoang Giang Commune reported that immediately after the storm, police, soldiers, and local officials were deployed to help residents deal with the aftermath. Rescue equipment was mobilized to retrieve overturned and damaged cars from fields and village roads.

“The damage caused by Typhoon No. 10 is extremely serious. We are currently compiling detailed reports to submit to higher authorities,” said a commune official.
