Coastal communities including Sam Son city, Nghi Son town, and the districts of Hoang Hoa and Hau Loc are currently experiencing the peak season for skeleton prawn fishing.

Setting out as early as 3 am, fishermen embark on their bamboo and foam rafts, navigating the sea for several hours to catch sea bream.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Thao from Quang Dai commune, Sam Son city, the fishing grounds vary daily, ranging from 10 nautical miles offshore to just a few, depending on where the skeleton prawns are found.

"On average, each trip brings in 5-7 quintals of skeleton prawns, sometimes exceeding 1 ton. With prices ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 VND/kg, each trip earns at least 2.5 million VND," Mr. Thao explained.

Upon catching the skeleton prawns, traders purchase them directly on-site. Some fishermen opt to dry the skeleton prawns ashore to fetch higher prices.

Mr. Pham Van Hoan, a skeleton prawn trader, highlighted the diverse market demands during the peak season. "Some buy for local production of sauces and pastes, while others dry them for sale to restaurants. I supply dried bream to markets in Korea and China, so there's always a high demand," he shared.

The Thanh Hoa sea area is bustling with thousands of rafts engaged in sea bream fishing, showcasing the importance of this industry to the local economy during its peak season.
