Mr. Do Hoang Tuan, in Thieu Tan commune, Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province, several days ago accidentally caught a giant oyster when he washed his feet in the family’s pond.
Tuan said at first he thought it was a rock because the oyster shell was black and covered with moss. Then he discovered that it was a giant oyster. When the oyster was fished out, it was dead already.
As it looked still fresh, Tuan’s mother opened the oyster and used a spoon to scrape the meat in order to make soup. While scraping the oyster meat, she found many beautiful small particles.

Tuan and his mother collected a total of 16 pears from the oyster. These pearls are as big as beans or corn kernels.
The oyster is 20 cm long, 15 cm wide. Some traders offered $500 to buy the oyster and the pearls but the family did not agree.
"In my life I have many times caught oysters but I’ve never seen such a big oyster with such a large number of pearls like this one. Perhaps this oyster lived in the pond for decades. We do not intend to sell the pearls right now because my family wants to keep them as souvenirs because we think that the pears are the gifts from the god", said Tuan’s mother, Ms. Do Thi Ngoc.
According to experts, these pearls are very valuable because they are natural pearls, with very beautiful colors.
