
Due to heavy and prolonged rain, the Chu Thanh Hoa Irrigation Company released water from the Yen My Reservoir causing flooding.
Chairman of Tinh Gia District People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Thuy said that water levels were expected to subside today.
The committee has assigned the local preventative medicine centre to prepare chemicals and water purification tablets to help residents filter water, clean up the surrounding environment and prevent the spread of disease, he said.
"The committee has provided each household with VND400,000 (US$19)."
Apart from money, each household has also received two packages of mineral-water and two noodle packages, he added.
As scheduled, the Viet Nam Red Cross presented yesterday 58 relief packages, each worth around VND1.5 million ($73), to residents.
The committee has additionally called on the provincial People's Committee to evacuate 58 households from the flood-hit area.
Central Steering Committee for Storm and Flood Prevention statistics showed that, up to now, seven people have died due to the six-day floods in central Nghe An and Binh Thuan provinces.
The floods have additionally damaged nearly 2,800 houses.
