VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese gymnast Phan Thi Ha Thanh qualified for the women's vault final at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, on Sunday night.

Thanh, from Hai Phong, scored 14.216 points in her performance to rank in top eight and secure a final round berth at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Southeast Asian Games champion, who managed to pocket a silver medal in the women's individual vault event in Portugal two years ago, will do her best to rank among the top three athletes this coming weekend.

* HCM City, Can Tho win titles

HCM City's Teachers' Training College won the National Student Volleyball Tournament – Toyota Cup after a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-23) win over the City-based Hong Bang International University during the women's final on Sunday.

In the men's final, Can Tho University clinched the title with a 3-0 win over the Ha Noi Teachers' Training College at HCM City's Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium.

Both men's and women's winners walked away with VND30 million (US$1,500) in prize money alongside a bonus of VND50 million ($2,500) from the sponsors.

At the first tournament in Ha Noi, HCM City's Sports College and the Bac Ninh Sports College clinched the men's and women's titles, respectively.

The Japanese carmaker has agreed to sponsor the annual championship in a 3-year deal.
