Thao took the lead with 6.30m. Nguyen Thi Truc Mai of Vinh Long took a silver medal with 6.02m, while Vu Thi Mong Mo of Hai Phong won bronze with 5.82m.

At the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia in August, Thao took a gold with 6.68m. At the Games two years ago, she won a silver with 6.65m.

She won a gold at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, in July with 6.54m. At the Asian Grand Prix in May, Thao bagged two gold medals with her marks of 6.41m and 6.58m.

In the women’s hammer throw, Pham Thi Thanh Truc of Vinh Long won a gold with 51.27m, breaking her own national record of 49.79m set in the same event in 2014.

Truc’s teammate, Bui Luu Phuong Ngan took a silver with 47.21m and Thach Thi May of Tra Vinh seized a bronze with 46.61m.

On the men’s side, Do Tan Truong of Da Nang won a gold medal with 54.24m. With this result, he broke the old record of 51.94m set by Tang Van Hai of Vinh Long last year.

Hai was the runner-up in this year’s event with 52.39m, followed by Tran Hoang Thien of Can Tho with 48.18m.

In the women’s 4x100m relay category, HCM City ranked first with 45.15sec. Ha Noi and Nam Dinh were second and third.

On the men’s side, the People’s Police took a gold medal with 40.67m, followed by the Military team and Binh Duong.

In the men’s triple jump, Hanoian Nguyen Van Hung beat Nguyen Tien Trong and Tran Van Dien of the Military team to win gold with 16.24m.

In the women’s high jump, Duong Thi Viet Anh of Bac Lieu triumphed with 1.81m. Pham Thi Diem of Hau Giang and Nguyen Lan Anh of Can Tho were the runners-up with 1.74m and 1.68m, respectively.

At the SEA Games in Malaysia, Anh was awarded the gold with 1.83m.

In the women’s 400m division, Nguyen Thi Huyen of Nam Dinh won a gold after clocking a time of 53.02sec. Nguyen Thi Hang of Ha Noi and Hoang Thi Ngoc of Quang Binh won silver and bronze.

Earlier, defending Asian champion Huyen won the women’s 400m hurdle event. The 24-year-old also won the 400m hurdles and 400m before claiming a third gold in the 4x400m relay at the regional event in Malaysia.

On the men’s side, veteran Quach Cong Lich of Thanh Hoa proved himself with a gold medal at 46.51sec, followed by Lịch by Tran Dinh Son of Ha Tinh and Phan Khac Hoang of Ha Noi with a time of 47.29sec and 47.99sec, respectively.
