VietNamNet Bridge – A gardener in the southern province of Tay Ninh is offering his ornamental garden for VND170 billion (over $6 million).

The garden covers 3,200 m2, with more than 1,000 ornamental plants of various varieties.

The owner is Mr. Vo Phi Son, 65, known as Ba Hung.

These plants have many different styles, and all are very expensive.

Some trees are priced at VND2 billion (nearly $100,000), equal to a car.

Most of the plants are cultivated in big pots weighing about 5 tons.

Of the 1,000 plants, 100 of them are the most valuable. They were collected from many provinces in the country and Cambodia. These trees are 100 to 300 years old.

Earlier this year, Son offered for sale two 300-year-old star fruit trees for VND7 billion (nearly $350,000).

The two trees are in the shape of an “honorable man”.

Son said he bought these trees from Dong Thap province nearly 30 years ago. It took him more than 20 years of caring and shaping the trees.

Two trees are 3.9 m high, with a diameter of 1.96m and 2.35m. The total weight of each tree is nearly 2 tons, including the pot.

At a spring flower festival several years ago, some people offered up to VND5 billion to buy the trees but Son did not sell.

Speaking about the price of VND170 billion for the bonsai garden, Hung said: "This garden is priceless to me, so it is very difficult to decide a price.”

Investment in this garden has been very costly. Son has to pay over VND20 million ($1,000)/month for hired workers to take care of the garden. On average, Son said, he has to pay VND1-2 million ($50-$100) for each tree.

He says he wants to sell the garden because he is old and weak now, and wants to rest.
