Specifically, the Coast Guard forces joined local people to clean up some polluted areas along the coast on the island commune.

The Coast Guard Region 2 provides medical examination and free medicine for fishermen in Cu Lao Cham.

 

 

At the competition, the Coast Guard awarded 10 bicycles and 20 scholarships, 100 sets of clothes, 228 schoolbags to students in extremely difficult circumstances on the island commune.

The Coast Guard also provided information and knowledge of the country’s sea and islands for officials and party members and implemented a number of other meaningful activities such as: offering free medical examination and medicine for the people; presenting 500 national flags and 20 first aid bags to fishermen; hanging the national flags on some fishing ships.

Colonel Le Huy Sinh, Political Commissar of the Coast Guard Region 2, affirmed: The "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" program has been implemented by the Coast Guard Region 2 for 3 years. The activities have been plentiful and practical, but that support has not yet been able to compensate for the difficulties of the people. To help fishermen to feel secure to cling to the sea, develop economy, contribute to building the the country, especially contribute to defending the sovereignty of Vietnam’s sacred islands, in the coming time, the Coast Guard will continue to work with organizations, units and businesses to support people.

On behalf of local people, Ms. Pham Thi My Huong, Chair of Tan Hiep Island Commune thanked for the attention and contribution of the Coast Guard Region 2 in preserving and defending the sovereignty of the country’s sea and islands in general and Cu Lao Cham island in particular. She hoped that in the coming time, the High Command of Coast Guard Region 2 and related units will organize many activities to accompany fishermen, build and defend the sea and islands.
