VietNamNet Bridge – Two of the four questions of the geography subject of this year’s university entrance exam require candidates to present their knowledge about the East Sea and the strategic significance of Vietnam’s islands.

In Hanoi, after 180 minutes of the Geography exam, many candidates left classrooms in a good mood because they did a good job.

Some said the East Sea is a hot topic so they had learned of this topic very carefully. They believed that they well answered the two questions about this issue.

Nguyen Minh Tri, from Cao Bang Province, who applied to the Hanoi University of Social Science and Humanities, said he was very interested in the questions. "The questions are open. I think I will have at least seven points," Tri said confidently.

In Da Nang city, many candidates also left the examination rooms with smiles on their faces. Talking about the two questions on mineral resources in Vietnam’s waters and the strategic significance of islands in economic development and marine security, Doan Ngoc Luyt said the two questions about the East Sea are not difficult. The answers are in the curriculum. “I mentioned the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spralty) Islands in my answers," he said.

Candidate Ho Thi Phuong, who applied to the Da Nang University, said: "We all know that the islands are the outpost for our country to move on out to the ocean so we need the links between the islands and archipelagoes in economic development and security."

In HCM City, many candidates were excited with the questions about the East Sea because they are open questions. Contestant Ngo Thi Nhu said: "The East Sea issue was repeatedly mentioned by my teachers in the reviews so I had no problem with the questions.”
