The 21st Bay Nui cow racing festival took place at the cow tracks of
the Ta Miet temple, Luong Phi commune on October 10. This year, there
were 64 excellent pairs of oxen selected from the districts of Tri Ton,
Tinh Bien, Chau Thanh, Chau Phu and Thoai Son of An Giang and the
districts of Hon Dat and Kien Luong of Kien Giang province to compete
in the race.
The organizers also invited Kirivong District of Ta Keo province, Cambodia to participate in the event.
From
early morning, after the opening ceremony, each of ox pair competed
fiercely. These oxen passed the qualifying round of local juries.
This
festival is held every year to celebrate the Dolta ceremony of the
Khmer in the South. This is the traditional festival of mud in the West. According to the organizers, about 30,000 people participated in the festival. Many people sat down on the track full of mud.
Those who could not find a spot on the ground climbed up to trees.
Dozens
of journalists were present to report on the unique festival of the
southeastern region and all of them were covered with mud to get good
pictures.
