VietNamNet Bridge – Antique collectors in Saigon often see each other at the café ran by singer Cao Minh in Binh Thanh district. here, customers can exchange, display and admire unique antiques.

 

Antique collectors often gather at the café on Sunday mornings. They call this café “antique market”. More interestingly, they can learn about history of the antiques.

 

Cao Minh café is also the venue of clubs of collectors of old vehicles, old phones and the club of photographers.

 

Ms. Thanh, from Tan Binh district, said: “my friends and I often come here on Sunday mornings to talk about old phones, which are one of my hobbies. Today we’re discussing the difference between phones of Western Electric and Automatic Electric.”

 

“Collecting old phones is my hobby. I thought that I’m alone but now I know that there are many people sharing my hobby at this café,” said a young man named Linh.

 

At Cao Minh café, one can buy old items worth anything between less than $5 to several hundreds of USD and those for which nobody can fix aprice. They may be rare spare parts of old Vespa motorbikes which were manufactured several decades ago or a watch which was made in the early 20th century.

 

Mr. Ky, a collector of old motorbikes from a southwestern province, said: “I’ve collected Lambretta motorbikes for nearly ten years. Every several months, I go to HCM City to visit this café to look for items I need”.
