VietNamNet Bridge – The SEA Games this year marks the transfer of forces of the track-and-field team of Vietnam with the appearance of a series of promising talents.

Nguyen Thi Oanh (women’s 400 m, 4x400 m relay)

Oanh’s achievement in the women’s 400m running (52 seconds 97) at the 2013 national championships is really impressive because it is far better than the gold medal at the 26th SEA Games by Treewadee Yongphan (54 seconds 13), and the Asian silver medal by Indian runner Poovammamr (53 seconds 37).

If it is compared to the world record, Oanh’s achievement nearly reaches the world gold medal by British runner Sabrina Bakare (52 seconds 77). If Oanh can maintain her performance, she can win two gold medals for the women’s 400 m and 4x400 m relay contents at the upcoming SEA Games.

Quach Thi Lan (women's 400 m hurdle)

Lan’s record of 57 seconds 36 at the national championships 2012 exceeded the 26th SEA Games gold medal and is not far from the Asian gold medal.

That is why Thanh Hoa province invested a lot of money on this athlete. Lan was sent to Bulgaria and Malaysia for training this year.

The current SEA Games champion for the women’s 400m hurdle will not compete at the 27th SEA Games so Lan is expected to win the gold medal this time.

Do Thi Thao (women's 800m and 1,500m running)

Thao has not reached the level of Truong Thanh Hang on the women’s 800m and 1,500m categories but at present, she is the leading runner on these distances in Southeast Asia after Hang’s absence from the track due to injuries.

In the previous SEA Games, Thao won two silver medals and only ranked after Hang. Hang’s strongest rivals at the 27th SEA Games are Indonesian runner Olivia Sadi and some African runners who have been naturalized in Myanmar.

Bui Thi Xuan (women's javelin)

This is the category that Vietnam is inferior to Thailand and the Philippines at the SEA Games. However, with the national record set at the national championships 2013 (50.48m) by Bui Thi Xuan, Vietnam has a chance to win a gold medal. Xuan’s record is 1.68m more than the 26th SEA Games gold medal by Natta Nachan (Thailand).

Nguyen Thanh Ngung (men’s 20km walk)

After winning a bronze medal at the 26th SEA Games, Ngung has made great progress in the last two years.

At the Asia Walking Championships 2013, Ngung defeated the defending SEA Games champion Lo Choon Sieng (Malaysia) with a distance of 37 seconds (1 hour 27 minutes 30 seconds).

Compared to the gold medal in 26th SEA Games, Ngung’s record also exceeded by 5 minutes 4 seconds. Ngung’s achievement in the training camp in China recently was also very good.
