Two years after the project started, Viet Thuan Group owned by Uy is preparing to put its first yacht named Essence Grand 1 into operation. Meanwhile, its second yacht, Essence Grand 2, will be handed over to the group in several months.

The two yachts have a length of 110 meters and width of 20 meters, with five stories and floor area of over 2,000 sq m. Each of the yachts has 55 rooms, capable of serving 166 overnight guests and 320 visitors and 70 service staff.

The yacht provides all services at international standards to different groups of clients, including VIP room (president room) with an area of 100 sqm with full amenities (bar, sunbathing yard, Jacuzzi, normal rooms, most of which have minimum area of 35 sqm), and a large dining room for 250 guests.

In addition to a skybar, 4-season saltwater pool, cinema and entertainment room, gym room, and library, there are also two helipads.

Once operational, the two yachts will be able to run from the north to the south within  12 miles of the mainland, in normal weather conditions.

At first, the building of the yachts was a project co-implemented by Viet Thuan and a tycoon in hotel development in the Old Quarter in Hanoi. However, sources said the cooperation between them broke up and Viet Thuan is now the only investor in the project.

Trinh Trung Uy, president of Viet Thuan Group, wants to build a third yacht, slated for 2024, worth VND1 trillion. The yacht is expected to travel around the world after it is built, possibly in 2026.

Who is Trinh Trung Uy?

Spending trillions of dong on expensive yachts and luxurious entertainment, Uy must be a tycoon in the high-end tourism industry of Vietnam.

Uy was originally a businessman in the field of waterways transport, specializing in providing bulk cargo transport services, especially coal for thermal power plants across the country.

Viet Thuan Group was established in 2005 and its headquarters is in Uong Bi City in Quang Ninh province. It now has six subsidiaries and 100 water transport vehicles with total tonnage of 1 million tons. In 2022, its consolidated revenue was VND9 trillion. Its major clients are Vinacomin, PetroVietnam and Electricity of Vietnam.

Uy rarely appears in mass media. The 52-year-old businessman is just known as ‘chair of a maritime shipping firm’.
