VietNamNet Bridge – Ms. Tran Thi An has had to lie on her stomach for many years because of an over-10kg tumor on her buttocks.

Doctors of the Nghe An Tumor Hospital were astonished by the giant tumor of An, 41, from Dien Ky commune, Dien Chau district of the central province of Nghe An. The tumor was sickly white, weighing more than 10kg, with nearly 50cm in perimeter. It looked like a water bag hanging on the women’s back and buttocks.

An said a small mark which looked like a burn appeared on her back when she was very small. It grew gradually and spread out to her back and buttocks. The tumor developed very quickly in the last 15 years ago.

Because of the tumor, An could not walk normally and had to lie on her stomach for many years. Having a complex of the giant tumor, An always covered her face whenever she left home.

The tumor also made her painful. Because of poverty, An did not go to hospital, she only bought pain-killers.

Her father died when she was a little girl. Her mother is old and very weak now. Her two younger brothers are mentally disabled people who left home many years ago. An had to do farm work and collect scraps to support herself and her old mother.

Not being a pretty woman and having a complex of her giant tumor, An believed that no man wanted to marry her. Therefore, she adopted an orphan. Everyday, she used a special trousers to cover her tumor to go to work.

Nearly one week ago, An could not sustain the pain caused by the tumor since pain-killers did not work. She went to the Nghe An Tumor Hospital.

Doctors examined and decided to perform a surgery to cut off the tumor. They said this was a big and complicated tumor. The patient would lose a lot of blood in the surgery.

Besides the giant tumor, An had hundreds of bean-sized tumors on her body, which are also developing. Doctors are making further tests to find out the reasons and appropriate treatment methods for An.

The hospital has called for benefactors to sponsor An’s surgery.
