In four nights in Hanoi, the Vietnam Spring Summer Fashion Week 2015 introduced 27 casual and 12 couture collections. In addition to familiar names as Minh Hanh, Vo Cong Khanh, Chu La, Quang Nhat and Ha Duy, the event had the participation of Italian designer Michele Gaudiomonte, Malaysian designer Eric Choong and three young faces – Hai Sieu, Quoc Khai and Tien Dat.

Senior designer Minh Hanh, who is also a member of the organizing board, said the goal of the event is to show identity and the language of Vietnamese fashion, to introduce designs in line with the needs of Vietnamese consumers.

The collections launched this time partly reflected the criteria of honoring Vietnam’s identity through the use of traditional materials such as silk and brocade and lacquered motifs.

This year, international trends as asymmetric, sporty, army design and using tassels were applied by several designers. Hai Sieup, 17, introduced his debut collection in sporty style. Two other young designers - Quoc Khai and Tien Dat - left an imprint of youth with the military-style collection and the use of moving streaks of color. The designs by Michele Gaudiomonte and Eric Choong blew a new wind.

With Minh Hanh’s designs, the audience still saw familiar images with generous, sharp, energetic and creative cut. Cong Khanh expressed his rebellious personality. Used to be one of the brightest designers of Vietnam Fashion Week, after many years of absence, Truong Thanh Long returned impressively with a men’s collection. Vu Viet Ha balanced traditional and modern aspects through the use of digital printing technique and Hanoi images.

However, the quality and creativity were unequal among collections.

Only the designs by Truong Thanh Long, Ha Duy, An Nhien, Tang Thanh Cong, Xuan Hao, and Vu Tran Duc Hai were modern, easy to wear, and showed the distinct personality of designers. Other designs did not have new things or did not fit daily life.

Some designers did not carefully prepare for their show resulting in several errors, for example model Hong Que wore a shirt with the broken zipper and an evening gown by Tang Thanh Cong did not fit the model. Worse, Charming Lys brand introduced a couture collection, which included some designs in its ready-to-wear collection.

The lack of professional models was also a minus of the program. Some models performed badly and their bodies were substandard.
