VietNamNet Bridge - The Son Tra banyan tree is the first officially recognised Vietnam heritage tree in the central city of Da Nang.

It is part of a population of banyan trees hundreds of years old in the nature reserve on Son Tra Peninsula. It is considered the "green lung" of the city with an area of 4,000 hectares.

Son Tra banyan tree (Ficus bengalensis) is over 800 years old, with a height of 22 meters. Its main trunk is 10 meters in circumference, and 85 meters in circumference. It has 26 secondary roots and the root height is up to to 25 meters.
