Mr. Le Van Chien, director of the Vung Tau port authorities, says that by 9am of April 12, almost all containers were collected, except for three mission ones. The port authorities have sent four more boats, totaling 10 ships, to expand the search of the remaining containers.
Before the collision with Thailand’s ship Krairatch Dignity, Truong Hai Star was carrying 66 containers, including 26 with cars and car components. Vung Tau port authorities confirm to find out 8 cars in four containers. Nearly 20 containers have not opened yet. Containers will be transported to HCM City to hand over to the ship owner.
According to the sunken ship’s captain, the ship contained around 40 tons of FO, 10 tons of DO and 1,000 liter of lubricant oil.
After the accident, mechanics dived to lock oil valves and dropped anchors to fix the ship. However, the threat of oil spill is still high.
Vung Tau port authorities have surrounded the side by buoys to prevent oil in case oil spill occurs.
To investigate the accident, the Vung Tau port authorities have retained the black box of the Thai-flagged ship, Krairatch Dignity.
The authorities also requested that the pilots of the two vessels submit detailed reports about the accident, which caused no casualties but resulted in a great loss of a million USD.
