Cam Chi alley (Strictly Forbid)
Cam Chi alley near Tong Duy Tan Street is a familiar rendezvous every weekend for Hanoians. The name of this alley is associated with a famous folk character – Chua Chom (Lord Chom).
According to legend, in his childhood, Chom lived in poverty so he had to eat on credit. Any restaurant where Chom visited enjoyed large customers so they did not abandon Chom. Later Chom became a lord and at that time the restaurant owners came to ask for money. The lord then placed a plate noted “Cam Chi” (forbid strictly) on Cua Nam Street to prevent people from coming to recover debts. And the name has remained since then.
