VietNamNet Bridge – Being empowered to manage the musical heritage of late composer Pham Duy, his son – Duy Cuong – has confirmed that the family creates all conditions for Pham Duy’s music to come to the public.

The statement which is said to come from the family of Pham Duy in the United States.
Any use that is not approved (in writing) by Pham Duy’s family or their lawyers is a violation of the intellectual property rights of the family of Pham Duy and will be prosecuted to the maximum under the law. This notice also stated the fine on music piracy of Pham Duy in the U.S. is $250,000 and the highest is in jail.
Musician Duy Cuong, Pham Duy’s son who lives in Vietnam, said he did not care about the origin of this notice. "As the official person who was appointed by my father to manage his musical heritage and based on the dream of my father, I always encourage and facilitate all organizations and individuals at home and abroad to use works by Pham Duy in accordance with the provisions of Vietnamese law. The notice that you refer to belongs to any individual who is not competent to manage the legacy of my father. Actually I do not care. That individual must take responsibility before the public."

Mr. Lam Vien Le, director of Phuong Nam Film, the holder of copyright of Pham Duy’s songs in Vietnam for 20 years, said: "In Vietnam, for the songs that are authorized for Phuong Nam Film, the singers who want to use them only need to ask for the permission through us."
