MOET says finals took place in earnest, students discovered cheating

“You are so stupid! The proctors proved to be sympathetic to the students, who spent 12 years on learning hard at general school, therefore, they tried to create most favorable conditions for them to pass the finals. Meanwhile, you made a foolish thing of denouncing the exam cheating,” this is the comment on Facebook of a student who has passed the final exams taken in early June.

This could be a big surprise to many people that the comment was written by a male schoolboy of the Hanoi High School for the Gifted under the Hanoi University for Natural Sciences, a very prestigious school, famous for talented students.

It could be a bigger surprise that a lot of people have expressed their agreement with the comment.

Other students used very cruel words to comment about the student of the Doi Ngo High School. “Bovine stupidity! Bac Giang province’s students are all big fools. Because of him, proctors would keep tighter supervision the next exam season, and we will suffer from this,” another comment reads.

Especially, many young people, who are working for agencies and enterprises, have also said that the Bac Giang’s student made a useless thing of denouncing of the wrongdoings.

“Exam cheating happens every exam season. Why does he need to make fuss? I am sure that all the Vietnamese students, once or many times, were, are and will be the cribbers,” a young girl wrote.

Another man agreed that the boy in Bac Giang tried to talk about the problem which has been existing for the last many years. He said that in fact, this should not be seen as a big problem, because cribbing is the habit of every student.

Only a few people have praised the behavior of the Bac Giang’s boy.

“What would you think about a person, who cheated at the final exam to get a “virtual degree,” and then used the virtual degree to enter private universities? He would be able to get promotion in his job and become your boss later? Would you be able to work for such the bosses who you believe are not capable and qualified?” a university student wrote.

“If they do not want to continue learning, they should leave school and take a job in order to not waste the parents’ money. I feel so disappointed about the way of thinking of the youth nowadays,” she continued.

The comment has, immediately, faced the strong opposition from the “community of students”. “Dare you swear that you never cribbed in your life?” a student questioned.

“I strongly believe that 90 percent of students pass the finals thanks to the cheating measures. Once you were a cheater, you should not criticize others,” the student continued.

“I think the problem should be blamed on the Vietnamese education,” the student concluded.

It seems that blaming everything on the unreasonably structured education is the easiest thing that everyone can do.

P, who is now a teacher at an international school, while recalling her school days, said that there were too many exercises that needed to be done. Therefore, students had no other choice than copying.

“Students nowadays are under a too hard pressure. They have too many tasks to fulfill, while their time is limited. Therefore, it would be better to stay sympathetic with them,” the young teacher said.
