The request was made by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son during a meeting on December 27 to celebrate International Day of Epidemic Preparedness.

Son noted that second shots for people aged 18 and above, particularly those suffering from chronic diseases and individuals over 50, must be completed no later than December 31, while those between the ages of 12 and 18 must be done in January 2022.

In line with the current vaccination process, Son stressed that Vietnam will complete its first-dose coverage for 100% of the population aged 18 and above, and achieve a second-dose coverage of 90% by the end of the year.

Furthermore, children aged 12 and above will also receive enough basic doses by the end of the year.

As of December 24, roughly 144 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered throughout the country.
