The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said that an estimated 78,800 people were displaced by floods in the Indonesian province of Aceh last week, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said here Friday.

"In West Java province, some 14,200 people have been displaced by flooding in Bandung district," Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here, quoting information from the Indonesian disaster management authority.

"Local authorities are currently handling the emergency response, and international humanitarian partners stand ready to support should any additional assistance be required," the spokesman added.

The waters submerged by up to 400 cm high in the districts of North Aceh and East Aceh, reports said, adding that emergency relief aids have been sent to the centers of evacuation.

On Tuesday, Indonesia reported that the number of evacuees stood at 28,000 people.

Indonesia is frequently struck by floods and landslides during heavy downpours.
