VietNamNet Bridge – Thousands of young people, mainly students from universities in Hanoi, participated in the Volunteer Heart blood donation festival at the Hoa Binh Park in Tu Liem District, Hanoi on December 3.

This is the third “Volunteer Heart” festival held in Hanoi, to prepare blood for reserve
for the upcoming lunar New Year (Tet holiday).

The festival attracted more than 2,500 blood donators.

The event is jointly held by the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and
the Hanoi Youth Association for Blood Donation.

Le Quyen, right, the first-year student of a college in Hanoi, was very nerve
because this was her blood-donating time.

Up to 70 percent of blood reserved at hospitals comes from students. Whenever
Tet holiday comes, blood shortage is very serious. The event’s organizers hope
that through this festival, around 2,000 units of blood is collected to prepare for
the upcoming Tet holiday, which may be up to nine-day long.
