VietNamNet captured the scene at one of the most famous pagodas in Vietnam by flycam on its first day of opening.

According to the management board of Huong Son relic site, Huong pagoda welcomed nearly 20,000 people on the day.

As Covid-19 is still complicated, the local authorities used loudspeakers to remind visitors to obey regulations on epidemic prevention measures, such as wearing a mask, washing hands with antiseptic, and making medical declarations.

On the Yen stream, thousands of boats carried tourists to the Huong pagoda. The fee for a boat trip is VND50,000/person and the price for a cable car ticket is VND180,000/person.

Three Covid-19 monitoring and control stations have been established at entrances of the historical site to ensure that all people strictly implement prevention measures, such as wearing masks, measuring body temperature, and washing hands.

The local volunteer force consisting of 35 members is always at the pagoda to remind people to strictly implement measures and provide face masks to visitors.

The number of travelers is expected to increase on upcoming days.

The organizing committee of Huong Pagoda Festival will further strengthen prevention and control of Covid-19 to reduce the spread of the disease.

Perfume Pagoda is at the center of a very revered and sacred site featuring a maze of mainly Buddhist temples built into the limestone cliffs of Huong Tich near Hanoi. At the heart of this complex lies the Perfume Temple or Perfume Pagoda in the Huong Tich Cave.

It is believed that the first temple was built here in the 15th century, although legend says that the site was actually discovered over 2,000 years ago by a Buddhist monk who was meditating nearby. The mountain foothills are an area of great natural and spiritual beauty filled with streams, tropical plants and temples.

There are many pagodas to visit, each offering a different shrine, most of which are Buddhist, although one or two are animist.

The Perfume Pagoda attracts pilgrims and tourists seeking good luck from the stalagmites and stalactites inside the cave which have been named according to the individual blessing they can bestow.

COVID-19 prevention measures tightened at Buddhist places of worship

The Standing Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council has ordered intensifying COVID-19 prevention and control measures at places of worship.

The Ministry of Health’s 5K message: khau trang (facemask), khu khuan (disinfection), khoang cach (distance), khong tu tap (no gathering) and khai bao y te (health declaration) must be seriously observed, the board said.

Heads of pagodas and other worship places should closely coordinate with local authorities to ensure physical distance between pilgrims, it added.

According to Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, Vice President and General Secretary of the VBS’s Executive Council, most of the localities have allowed the reopening of Buddhist places of worship, with tens of thousands of people flocking to major pagodas during the first days of the second lunar month.
