The increase in stranded shipping containers was particularly notable in January, coinciding with the Lunar New Year holiday, when import volumes normally rise. The Saigon Port Area 1 Customs Branch holds the highest number of stranded containers, followed by areas 3 and 4, alongside the Hiep Phuoc port.

Even air cargo terminals are affected, with 2,038 types of stranded goods totaling nearly 470,000 tons. Tan Son Nhat International Airport Customs Sub-department and the Express Customs Sub-Department are among the particularly impacted areas, with 467 tons and two tons of stranded goods, respectively.

Stranded goods encompass a variety of imports, including timber, scrap, and various other commodities. Notably, many importers listed for scrap shipments are inactive, prompting authorities to take action.

The HCMC Customs Department is taking steps to address this issue by notifying and seeking the owners of stranded goods held for over 90 days.
