New Covid-19 cases have recently edged up in China, causing a shortage of labor and slowing down the import and export activities at the border gate, according to the Lao Cai Customs Department.

The majority of trucks stranded at the Lao Cai Border Gate are on the way back to Vietnam after unloading cargo in China. Some trucks are waiting for imported goods, while others are lining up to deliver goods to China.

A large number of trucks at the Lao Cai Border Gate has caused heavy traffic on the roads around the area for a few days, posing a potential risk of social disorder and traffic accidents.

Lao Cai and Chinese authorities are working together to speed up the clearance of goods and the import-export activities at the border gate.

To ensure social security and traffic safety, the border guards have tried their best to guide the vehicles to the waiting areas according to the direction of the Economic Zone Management Board in Lao Cai.

The total value of goods imported and exported through the Lao Cai border gate from the beginning of the year to August 15 was over US$524 million. The export value reached US$107 billion, while the import value was above US$285 billion, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
