The city’s Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) on Monday (June 5) held a press conference to announce its annual volunteer campaign for youth this summer.
Ngô Minh Hải, deputy permanent secretary of the city’s HCYU, said this year’s campaign aims to mark the 30th anniversary of summer volunteer programmes and activities of the city’s youth (1994-2023).
The activities and programmes will take place mostly in the city, and 17 provinces and cities in the southeast region, Tây Nguyên (Central Highlands), the Mekong Delta and south-central coastal region, including Bình Phước, Bình Thuận, Tây Ninh, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Đắk Nông, Bến Tre, An Giang, Vĩnh Long, Đồng Tháp, Trà Vinh, Tiền Giang, Long An, Kiên Giang, Hậu Giang, Phú Yên and Ninh Thuận.
They include six main events, Mùa hè xanh (Green Summer) volunteer campaign, Tiếp sức mùa thi (Assistance for candidates during the national high school graduation examination) programme, Hoa phượng đỏ (Red Flamboyant) volunteer campaign, Kỳ nghỉ hồng (Pink Vacation) volunteer campaign, Hành quân xanh (Green March) volunteer campaign, and Gia sư áo xanh (blue-shirt tutors) programme; international volunteer activities; and volunteering in the islands and cyberspace.
The campaign will also include activities in Thạnh An Island Commune in HCM City’s Cần Giờ District, Phú Quý Island District in Bình Thuận Province and Laos.
The young volunteers will help to upgrade at least 100km of roads and alleys, repair downgraded houses or build new ones for 45 disadvantaged families, build 45 new playgrounds for children, plant 70,000 trees, and admit 3,700 new youth union members, 5,000 new members of the Việt Nam Youth Union and 500 elite union members to the Party.
They will organise 400 training activities on fostering knowledge of digital transformation, 350 training sessions on social skills for the youth, 30 training activities with knowledge on start-ups, and provide free health check-ups, counseling and medicines to 32,000 people and children in difficult circumstances.
The commencement ceremony for the 2023 summer volunteer campaign is scheduled to be held at the city’s HCYU headquarters on Phạm Ngọc Thạch Street in District 1 on June 11. — VNS
