More than 2,000 tourists have been stranded on Co To Island in Quang Ninh Province due to bad weather from June 14 to 15.

Vessels have been banned from setting sail

Turbulent seas and high waves affected the island from 9pm on June 14, forcing the provincial Inland Waterway Administration to ban vessels from leaving or going to Co To Island.

The local authorities also give financial support for those forced to remain on the island.

The administration's representative said they would follow information from the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting to make plan to transfer tourists to the mainland.

Some hotels and restaurants cut prices by 30% to help the stranded tourists.

Le Hong Thang, director of Quang Ninh Inland Waterway Administration, said, "To prevent regrettable situations, we won't lift the ban if the weather does not get better in the next few days."
