On October 5, through the online cameras installed at the Son Ca kindergarten in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province a mother named Dinh Hang saw a babysitter pulling her 15-month son’s ear. The babysitter also pulled the baby to a corner to beat him with a stainless spoon.

The mother immediately called her husband and the couple went to the kindergarten at noon to clarify the matter. They thrust open the classroom door and were panicked seeing their son’s limbs bound, his mouth full of cloth and three baby-sitters sitting next to him.

The mother said that her baby had been in the class for nearly a week. She said the boy had been acting abnormally since he had begun attending the kindergarten. The baby often screamed while sleeping and had bruises on his body and face.

The case was reported to the local police. The three babysitters were summoned to the police station for investigation.

As the case was reported by the media, it has outraged the public.

The kindergarten was closed immediately. According to the Dong Hoi City Education Department, Son Ca Kindergarten was operating illegally with 10 babysitters and over 80 kids. Of the three babysitters who involved in the case, two were apprentices and one had one year of experience.

In related news, two caretakers of a nursery school in northern mountain Lang Son Province have been suspended for alleged ill-treatment of a 22-month-old boy.

A video went viral last Thursday, which showed the toddler crying and screaming outside his class in Xuan Mai Nursery School in northern Lang Son province and picking up things from a nearby trash can to eat.

In the video, a caretaker was seen threatening to drop the boy into a dry pool if he did not stop crying.

The boy's mother said her son, who started going to class two weeks ago, now refused to go to school.

She said the two caretakers had visited her family and apologised for their actions.

Vice-head of Van Quan District's Department of Education and Training Ha Thi Thanh Thuy said the department was verifying the incident and would announce its decision soon.
