A piece of the boat is found on the Cua Lon River on January 18.

According to a report released on January 18 by the Ngoc Hien District People's Committee, Nguyen Ngoc Tu, 42, found a bomb left from the American War in the Cua Lon River several days ago. He brought it home, intending to cut it to take scrap metal but was prevented by his family members due to the danger.

On January 17, Tu asked Ta Van Nhi, 33, and Nguyen Chi Hieu, 16, who all earned their living by collecting scrap metal to help him take the bomb onto a boat and transport it to the Cua Lon River. The three men used an electric saw to cut the bomb which caused the explosion.

"All three died in the explosion," the committee said.

Rescue forces found some human body parts while searching for the three men following the explosion.

The explosion also broke the glass window of a house some 800 metres from the site.

Representatives from the committee have visited and sent condolences and support to the families of the three men.

The Cua Lon River spans nearly 60 kilometres and is between 200-400 metres wide.
