VietNamNet Bridge – Three Chinese workers were killed in a labor accident at the construction site of the Thuan Hoa hydropower plant in Ha Giang, a northern province of Vietnam, on Wednesday.

According to the local authorities, a group of four workers were swept away by strong currents while they were working inside a water tunnel on January 20. One of them was rescued but injured.
The bodies of the three victims were found the next morning, about 3 km from the site of accideent. They are workers of the Chinese contractor, the Zhejiang company.
On January 22, the authorities of Ha Giang handed over the bodies to China at the international border gate of Thanh Thuy.
Tran Duc Quy, Deputy Chairman of Ha Giang, confirms the incident, saying that the cause of the accident has not yet been clarified. The case is under investigation and the construction has been halted.
The construction of Thuan Hoa hydropower plant, with a capacity of 38 MW, started in June 2013. Upon completion, the plant will produce about 130 million kWh per year. The work is built on the Mien River in Vi Xuyen district.
The investor is the Thuan Hoa Hydropower JSC, with a total investment of nearly VND1.3 trillion (US$60.8 million). The estimated construction period is three years.
