Speaking with Dantri/Dtinews early on February 21, the chairman of Nui Thanh District People's Committee, Le Van Sinh, said that the accident occurred at 1.35 am when a passenger coach carrying 30 people crashed into a truck that was parking on the side of the National Road 1A in Tam Anh Nam Commune.

"The Phuong Trang Company's coach was driven by Nguyen Anh Tien, 48, and was on route from Lam Dong Province to Thua Thien-Hue Province," Sinh said. "The crash left one person dead at the site and 15 others injured. Hearing the screaming from the coach, local people came to help get the victims out before police arrived."

The official said that two more passengers died at the hospital and 13 others were still being treated including three suffering serious injuries.

The coach is heavily damaged

The accident occurred just some three kilometres away from the site of another accident that killed 10 people on February 14.

The National Traffic Safety Committee has asked local authorities to investigate the cause of the accident and propose measures to solve the problems.
