Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of three girls who were swept away by flash floods in Son La Province after torrential rain triggered an overnight search involving hundreds of people.

Local authorities in Gia Phu Commune confirmed on August 2 that all three victims had been found following an intensive rescue operation.

Motorcycle led rescuers to the victims

Heavy rainfall hit Cheo Bau Village on the afternoon of August 1, causing flash floods that swept away the children.

Authorities mobilized hundreds of rescue workers, local officials and residents to search for the missing girls.

At around 7 p.m., residents discovered a motorcycle lodged against a roadside guardrail after being carried away by floodwaters.

The discovery helped authorities identify the missing victims as T.T.L. (born 2012), T.T.N. (born 2021) and T.T.T. (born 2023), all from Cheo Bau Village.

Overnight search

At approximately 8 p.m., rescuers recovered the body of T.T.N. from the old Bau Stream, about 500 to 700 meters from where the motorcycle was found.

About two hours later, the body of T.T.L. was discovered in a stream in Na Lanh Village, roughly 2 to 3 kilometers from the original search area.

Search efforts continued throughout the night for the youngest victim.

On the morning of August 2, rescuers located the body of T.T.T. near the area where the other two girls had been found.

Authorities are continuing to assess the impact of the flooding.
