Veteran artists Dinh Y Nhi, Hoang Thi Phuong Lien and Vo Luong Nhi, who are known as closest friends since childhood, last week inaugurated a joint exhibition at Mai’s Gallery of 3A Station in District 1, HCMC.
The trio, now in their 50s, held their first joint art show on Hang Bai Street in Hanoi in 1995.
Dinh Y Nhi has had 11 solo and 20 joint exhibitions in Vietnam, France, Germany, the U.S., Switzerland and Singapore.
Vo Luong Nhi, who was born and grew up in Hanoi, is a designer at the Vietnam Post Office and a member of the Vietnam Association of Fine Arts. Nhi has so far had over 10 exhibitions in Vietnam, Korea, Germany, Sweden and the U.S. She got first prize in a stamp design contest in 2003, and third prize in a graphic design contest held by the Vietnam Association of Fine Arts in 1996, and the Sweden Cultural Foundation Award.
Hoang Thi Phuong Lien, a graduate of the University of Fine Arts and Industry, has joined 14 solo and joint exhibitions. Her works have been highly acclaimed in Malaysia, Singapore and Canada.
At the ongoing exhibition, Dinh Y Nhi is displaying 10 oil-on-canvas paintings depicting different stages of a woman’s life, from a child to an adult, while Vo Luong Nhi is showing 10 surrealist paintings and works about young girls and Hanoi. Hoang Thi Phuong Lien has brought some elegant paintings on daily activities of ethnic minority people in the northern upland. Her modern and traditional style of color mixing reminds people of the peacefulness of nature and people’s soul.
The exhibition runs until November 27 at 3A Ton Duc Thang Street in HCMC’s District 1. Mai’s Gallery was established in Vietnam in 2001 and in New York in 2003. The gallery has hosted a lot of exhibitions and talk shows about art and contemporary life.
