The UMB World Three-cushion Championship is a professional carom billiards tournament in the discipline of three-cushion billiards, organized mostly annually by the UBM.

This year the event will be held in Portugal from September 5 to 9, with the participation of 48 world leading players.

The competitors are chosen by UBM based on the following principle: 20 top players in the world rankings, 12 leading players of Europe, 8 leading players of the Americas and 4 top players of Asia.

Accordingly, three Vietnamese players who successfully played at the 2012 Asian Billiards Championship were invited to the event.

At the 2012 Asian Billiards Championship, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen ranked third, Duong Anh Vu and Tran Quyet Chien entered the quarter-finals.

The 48 players will be divided into 16 groups to play in a round-robin. The top player of each group will enter the quarter-finals.

Duong Anh Vu will play in F group, with Japan’s Takeshima and Greece’s Kasidokostas Filipos.

Nguyen Quoc Nguyen will compete in K Group, with Italy’s Marco Zanetti and Greece’s Nilos Polychronopoulos.

Tran Quyet Chien’s rivals in P Group will be Spain’s Javier Palazon and South Korea’s Lee Chong-bok.

The bonus for the champion is only Eur4,000. However, players expect to get bonus points from the event.

The World Three-cushion Cup will be held in South Korea from September 19 to 23. Some Vietnamese players will attend the event, with funding from private sources.
