VietNamNet Bridge – At least three Vietnamese people died in a car accident in Hekou District, Yunnan Province, China on March 16.

Ly Kim Tieu, Chairman of Den Sang Commune, Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province, said that a truck carrying 23 Vietnamese people overturned in Hekou District at noon on March 16.

The accident killed three people on the spot; 17 others were injured and three only had scratches. All of them are citizens of Den Sang Commune.

Chinese rescuers quickly took the injured people to the hospital. They also handed over the bodies of the three people to their families that night.

"They very quickly dealt with the accident, such as taking victims to the hospital and giving financial assistance of VND115 million ($5,000) to the family of each dead person, and then handed over the bodies," Tieu said.

He said the cause of the accident is under investigation by the Chinese authorities.

He added that the 17 injured people were being treated at the Hekou Hospital and their situation was stable.
