The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) selected three Vietnamese players to be part of a team to compete in a charity match against the Indonesian national team next month in Jakarta.
Striker Le Cong Vinh
The ASEAN All-Star team will include Viet Nam's striker Le Cong Vinh, midfielder Nguyen Van Quyet, and defender Truong Dinh Luat.
Vinh of V-League Song Lam Nghe An club is the nation's top forward who has won the Golden Ball statue for the best player of the year on three occasions. He was also the only Vietnamese and ASEAN player competing in a professional league in Japan in 2013.
Quyet is a key player of both V-League defending champions, Ha Noi T&T, and the national team. He is among the top scorers in the ongoing Asian Football Confederation Cup.
Becamex Binh Duong's Luat demonstrated his advanced skills and techniques in the local tournament and his ability was recognised by the Viet Nam Football Federation who took responsibility to nominate players to the AFF last month.
AFF also invited Malaysian Krishnasamy Rajagobal to take charge of the team, while Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin will be the team's manager.
Rajagobal, 57, is regarded as one of the best coaches in the region, having led Malaysia to titles in the 2009 Laos SEA Games and the 2010 AFF Cup. He will be assisted by Kedah Coach Tan Cheng Hoe.
Football Association of Malaysia's general secretary Hamidin was the team manager when Malaysia won the gold in the Sea Games held in 2011.
As per schedule, the ASEAN All-Star team will meet in Jakarta on May 8 and the match will be organised three days later at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
All proceeds from the game will be donated to a fund supporting the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines last year.
