Notably, a M117 bomb weighing more than 300kg was found behind a Forest Rangers Unit in Trong Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, about 100m away from residential areas.

Another M117 bomb of the same weight was spotted in the backyard of a local resident in Van Trach commune, Bo Trach district, during the construction of a biogas tank.

Mine Advisory Group (MAG) experts were dispatches to the sites to defuse and move the bombs to the warehouse T92 of the Military Command of Quang Binh province, awaiting detonation according to regulations.

Quang Tri was heavily bombarded during the US-waged war in Vietnam in the 20th century.

The province has cleared over 779,000 bombs, mines and UXOs of all kinds, and cleaned 26,660 hectares of land contaminated with heavy bombs and mines.

Since the beginning of 2023, with the support of the US Department of State and the Japanese Government, MAG has safely handled 285 explosive materials in the province.
