Speaking to the media on the morning of June 2, a representative from Dien Xuan Commune People's Committee said that the incident occurred at Xuan Dong Village at 5 am when Phan Danh Hung, 37, stabbed his wife Ly Thi Thuy, 37, to death at their house.

Hearing Thuy's scream for help, her niece and a neighbour came to help but were also stabbed to death by Hung.

Hung then fled to a nearby mountain.

According to some neighbours, Hung and his wife had recently frequently quarreled over financial issues. Hung worked as a construction worker and Thuy did odd jobs to earn a modest income. They had two small children.

Police are searching for Hung.
