In Xach Ba Lo Len va Di (Take a Backpack and Go), Nguyen Thi Khanh Huyen describes her "unbelievable" two-year trip through Asia and Africa on a budget of US$700.

However, those looking to follow in her footsteps may have difficulty, as much of the book turned out to be fictional.

After suspicious reader Tran Ngoc Thinh petitioned the publisher to recall the work, Huyen admitted that she had exaggerated some details, such as illegally crossing the Malawi border and getting a visa to Israel.

However, the publisher will not recall the book, as the fictional information did not have a negative impact on anyone.

"The fictitiousness is not evidence for not publishing the book," said Chu Van Hoa, head of the publishing department under the ministry of Information and Communication. "The author and publishing house will correct the information in the next edition."

The revelation does not seem to have affected sales, as the book continues to top bestseller lists both at bookstores and online.
