Let’s take a look back at a few Vietnamese traditional costumes that have impressed foreign judges and audiences at international beauty pageants through the years.
H’Hen Nie, the Vietnamese representative at Miss Universe 2018, will wear a “Banh Mi” inspired outfit for the upcoming national costume themed segment of the Miss Universe 2018 pageant. Nguyen Phuong Khanh, the Vietnamese representative at Miss Earth 2018, won gold in the Asia & Oceania region for her national costume. The dress, designed by Linh San, was inspired by the Sun Goddess from Greek mythology. Bui Phuong Nga, the Vietnamese representative at Miss Grand International 2018, ranked second in the national costume segment as she wore an elegant Ao Dai. Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien also wore a beautiful Ao dai at the national costume segment of Miss International 2018. Huyen My chose to wear a red Ao Dai, that weighed 30 kilograms, at Miss Grand International 2017. Khanh Ngan wore a dress by designer Le Long Dung at the Miss Globe 2017 pageant. The flamboyant costume was inspired by the image of a Vietnamese Queen, Nam Phuong. Le Hang wore a colorful Ao Dai, which was designed by Nguyen Huu Binh and made of natural silk from Ha Dong, as well as leaves, rattan and bamboo. Hang wore the outfit at the national costume segment of Miss Universe 2017. Thuy Dung wore a design by Tin Thai at the national costume segment of Miss International 2017. The white colour and wings as accessories were inspired by the heron. Nguyen Thi Loan, the Vietnam’s representative at Miss Grand International 2016 pageant, performed in a traditional four-panel dress (ao tu than) at the National Costume segment. Kha Trang’s Ao Dai worn at Miss Eco Universe in 2016 was listed amongst the top three in the ‘Best in National Costume’ competition. Miss Universe Vietnam 2015 winner Pham Huong wore a white Ao dai adorned with golden leaves by fashion designer Thuan Viet. Huong wore the outfit to compete at the National Costume segment of Miss Universe 2015. Lan Khue wore an elegant Ao Dai at Miss World 2015. Ha Thu competing at Miss Intercontinental 2015, selected a dazzling black traditional Ao Dai designed by Vo Viet Chung. The long dress was inspired by the national lotus flower. |
