Linh defeated Sabrina Jacquet of Switzerland 2-0 in the final group match of the Olympic women’s badminton on July 28 morning.

Four days prior to her victory Thuy Linh recorded another 2-0 win over French player Qi Xuefei in her first game of the group stage.

She ultimately finished second in Group P and failed to progress to the quarter finals.

The 24-year-old athlete became the first Vietnamese player to record two wins in the women’s badminton. In previous versions of the Olympics, national representatives Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung and Vu Thi Trang both won one match each, in 2008 and 2016, respectively.

After recording such an impressive achievement at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Thuy Linh is set to enjoy a significant improvement in global rankings which are set to be announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in the near future.

Elsewhere, the morning of July 28 saw Vietnamese archer Anh Nguyet lose 5-6 to Ren Hayakawa of host nation Japan in the women’s individual archery category, meaning she failed to progress to the next round.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics is scheduled to last until August 28, with the nation sending a 43-member contingent to the games, including 18 athletes who are set to compete across 11 different sports, although they have so far failed to win a medal.
