The inspiration for her series of paintings featuring clouds are from her father, a former pilot, and the book "The Way I Walk - The Way of White Clouds".

The paintings show Tia-Thuy Nguyen’s observation of the interaction between sun, wind and clouds, which creates different physical shapes and colors in the sky. They are her travel diary. Each painting was drawn from a different "point of view" from the plane's window as she looked down into the troposphere.

To portray these almost surreal scenes, Tia-Thuy Nguyen combined oil painting techniques and handmade embroidery and beading.

The exhibition will open on September 25 at Château La Coste, 2750 Route De La Cride, 13610 Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, Aix-en-Provence, France.

Tia-Thuy Nguyen was born in 1981, grew up in Hanoi. After graduating from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts (2006), she received a scholarship at the Kiev National Academy of Arts and Architecture, Ukraine, where she got a Master's degree and then a PhD in art in 2014.

Tia-Thuy Nguyen has nearly 20 years of experience practicing painting on a variety of materials. In 2016, Tia established The Factory contemporary art center, the first contemporary art space in Vietnam to connect the community of artists and designers.

Tia's artworks have been exhibited, collected and auctioned at home and abroad. Most recently, Forbes magazine honored her as one of the 50 most influential women in Vietnam in 2019.
