Minh defeated the New Zealand player in both sets (21-8 and 21-11), opening the door wide for him to enter tougher rounds of the Champs.

In the coming round, the Vietnamese representative will compete against German player Dieter Domke (world No.60).

The ongoing competition in China drew the world’s most outstanding players, such as Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia, and Long Chen and Lin Dan from China.

Earlier at the 2013 US Open Grand Prix Gold, Tien Minh claimed an overwhelming victory after thrashing Calvin Lin from the host country within 21 minutes. He also defeated Wong Wing Ki (world No.12) from Hong Kong at the event.
