VietNamNet Bridge - Before going to India to play for Pune Vijetas - a local badminton club, Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh who just won the world bronze medal received an additional VND200 million ($10,000) of bonus from Becamex IDC Corporation.
Minh takes bronze at Guangzhou badminton
The bonus was given to Tien Minh yesterday, right at the airport. Becamex IDC is the longtime sponsor for Nguyen Tien Minh. Named in the top 10 in the world, every month Minh gets VND50 million ($2,500) from this company while his salary, paid by HCM City, is only VND7 million ($350) per month.
With the world bronze medal, Tien Minh received only VND10 million of bonus from the Vietnam Badminton Federation, VND15 million from the HCM City Badminton Federation, VND20 million from Thai Le Company, VND35 million of the Sports and Physical Training Administration and VND41 million from the HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Also, Tien Minh will receive VND15 million per month (for one year) from the HCM City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism for the world medalist. In total, Tien Minh will have VND500 million in bonuses for the world bronze medal.
After the World Badminton Championship, Tien Minh will compete for Pune Vijetas club at the India Badminton League 2013, which will take place from August 14 to 31.
Previously, in an auction, Pune Vijetas paid $44,000 to hire Tien Minh. In this tournament, he will have the opportunity to compete with other well-known players like Lee Chong Wei (world No. 1), Hu Yun and Taufik Hidayat (2004 Olympic champion). The total bonus for this tournament is up to $1 million.
The Sports and Physical Training Administration has proposed the State to grant the second-class Labor Order to Tien Minh.
