VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese athlete Nguyen Tien Minh has defended his 5th place in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings.
In the BWF rankings released on September 5, Minh got 58566.7218 points keeping him there for the fourth consecutive week.
The BWF top ten saw no change. Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei is still world number one, followed by China’s Chen Long and Du Pengyu.
The men’s singles top ten is rounded out by Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana, Tien Minh (Vietnam), Tommy Sugiarto (Indonesia), Kenichi Tago (Japan), Hu Yun (Hong Kong-China), Jan Jorgensen (Denmark), and Wang Zhengming (China).
China’s dominance is evident in its athletes claiming world-leading rankings in three categories: Xu Chen and Ma Jin for mixed doubles, Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang for women’s doubles, and Li Xuerui for women’s singles.
The Republic of Korea’s Ko Sung Hyun and Lee Yong Dae are the number one pair in men’s doubles.
*** Vietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh has entered the 2013 Taiwan Open Grand Prix Gold’s quarterfinals after defeating Malaysia’s Zulfadli Zulkiffli 21-16, 21-15 in their September 5 match.
Minh will now face Thailand’s Khosit Phetpradab on September 6.
In the women’s event, Vietnamese representative Vu Thi Trang also advanced to the quarterfinals with a comfortable 21-9, 21-10 win.
Her next opponent is Singapore’s Juan Gu.
The tournament concludes on September 8. Each of its champions will walk away with US$200,000 in prize money.
