By February 2023, Vietnam had nearly 50 million people using TikTok, ranking sixth among the countries with the most users globally, according to online report provider DataReportal.

TikTok is now among the most popular social networks in Vietnam although it has just boomed in the country for around three years.

The TikTok algorithm uses data based on user activities, video information and other settings to determine what content should be customized for each account.

Like Meta’s Facebook and Google’s Youtube, TikTok has also developed a set of community standards with accepted behaviors for a safe interaction environment among users.

All or part of TikTok activities has been banned in many countries and territories, including India, Taiwan, the U.S. and Canada.

The upcoming inspection is expected to ensure TikTok operations align with the Vietnamese legal framework, preventing fake news, superstition and disinformation from spreading on the social media platform owned by the Chinese company ByteDance.

The inspection will focus on a range of TikTok activities, particularly content, e-commerce and advertising, said Mr. Le Quang Tu Do, head of the MIC's Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the General Department of Taxation under the Ministry of Finance have also joined the inspection.
