Toan of V.League 1’s Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) injured his knee during a training session ahead of his team’s match against Cambodia on November 24.

According to doctors, Toan will need at least six weeks to recover.

Toan, 22, has only played one game in this year’s regional tournament against Myanmar on November 20. He had the ball in the back of the net during that game but it was ruled out for offside, a decision that experts and fans have criticised.

“Toan is still young so he needs to get stronger. Saying goodbye to the event will be a sad time for him, but in football, anything can happen,” said Doan Nguyen Duc, HAGL’s boss.

“We asked head coach Park Hang-seo for him to be treated in South Korea and we are waiting for an answer,” Duc added.

Two other HAGL players, midfielders Nguyen Tuan Anh and Vu Van Thanh, are also being treated in South Korea.
